I was looking into how people are using Maschine to create music and I came across this video. I really like the underlying track he's using, but I have no idea who it is.

Fast forward to 0:58 where the song starts

Morphine was an American alternative rock group formed by Mark Sandman, Dana Colley and Jerome Deupree in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1989. After five successful albums and extensive touring, they disbanded in 1999 after frontman Sandman died of a heart attack.
I'm listening to some more of there stuff and I'm really liking it. I can't believe I've never once heard of this band, but I know all about Limp Bizkit.

Bobbing my head to Buena. I can't believe this band never "made" it. Now I'm pissed that I discovered them too late to see them. I bet they put on one hell of a live show.

Morphine used to be one of my fav bands. I've brought them up on here quite a few times.

I'm Free Now is my favorite song off that album personally
but the whole album is awesome
yea and morphine was getting pretty popular until sandman dropped dead on stage at a show. it was always believed to be drugs, but I watched the documentary Cure for Pain: The Mark Sandman story recently and apparently it wasn't

honestly I can't recall exactly what it was as I was stoned but i do distinctly remember them saying it was not heroin
I was like you. I always assumed and was even convinced it was, but according to this documentary it wasn't

I was really disappointed when I opened this I was hoping this would be a discussion on morphine.

I saw Morphine at Tip's somewhere around 1995-96 or so. Sandman played a two-string, slide base and the rest of the band was a drummer and an alto sax player. I was amazed at the sound they got out of that sparse lineup with no rhythm section touring with them.
I'm amazed at the disinformation that spread back then (I guess the internet was not the efficient tool it is now). I heard Sandman was a stage name born out of the sleepy low-rock sound he liked (not true, Google tells me now...it's his given name). And I heard he was considerably older than most of his contemporaries because he had spent time in prison and didn't start his career until after he got out (also not true, or at least I can't find any reference to it).
It was sad to hear of his death. They were a good show. I wouldn't put it at the level of Jeff Buckley' death in terms of creative genius lost, but they were doing a lot of interesting stuff when he died.
