To me a BoB is for extreme emergencies when I cannot grab the rest of my stuff.

I only have 1 packet of Freezedried food because of the additional water it takes.

I prefer a handfull of granola/energy bars and a brick of Datrex emergency rations.

I have enough to last about 5 days, 10 if I ration plus it is light.

Get some MREs and break them down and tape together the stuff you will eat (crackers, main course, dessert). Throw the rest of the stuff away, you can easily tote around a couple of days worth of food without much weight.

They are bulky and waste a lot of space. If you don't think they are heavy put 6 of them in your ruck and hump up and down mountains with a basic load of water and ammo. You will change your mind.

If it's for a true bug out situation, you don't want anything you have to stop and prepare, because when you're bugging out you want to move fast and leave no trace. High calorie food that isn't thirst inducing and that you can eat on the move is ideal.

3600 calories is between 1.5 and 4 days of survival depending on activity
