Anyone who who mentions Breaking Bad while discussing The Wire needs their head reexamined.

Correct. Breaking Bad has won 4 Primetime Emmy awards and has been nominated for numerous Emmy and Golden Globe awards. The Wire did not win any Emmy or Golden Glob awards yet both shows are obviously popular each with an IMDB rating of 9.4.

The Wire was a great series and I highly recommend sticking with it.

The Wire won no major awards

Other than the f'n Peabody, which is the most prestigious award in television.

I like BB, and don't want to fall into the compare the shows thing as its possible to like both shows, but they are very different kind of shows in intent. The Wire is a densely plotted and has an intricate universe. BB is a character study, but also primarily a high-adreneline action show. BB is all about tension, The Wire is about pathos.

Are you trying to make the argument that breaking bad is even close to being as good as or is better than the wire based on awards?

Whew! Let me catch my breath...

I love Breaking Bad (used to sport the avi), Mad Men, and Boardwalk Empire right now. I could watch Boardwalk reruns everyday 'til I die. I can still admit that the show is flawed and nowhere near what The Wire is.

This shite right here

and this shite right here

... don't deserve to be anywhere near a Wire thread. Loving it doesn't mean it isn't still an action show with some serious cheese. The storyline, parallels, and character study are what put it in a higher category than the majority of action shows.
