Oh forgot that I had a bad experience at Abita Brew Pub too. Their kitchen caught on fire and I knew something was up. I heard a server tell a table behind us they were not taking orders. Asked out server what was going on and she just said our order would be out shortly not mentioning a fire. Then after bout 40 min I found her again and asked if all was good and she said our order would be right out once again. 25 min went by and I went and spoke to the manager. He went and checked and our order wasnt in they didnt know what went out prefire/postfire and our waitress never checked on it at all. Manager gave me a beer but I could see him pull her to the side and lit into her. After an hour and half we finally got our order which was a hamburger and a salad. Probably should have left. Of course then I had to flag the manager down again just to get the bill because our server never came back to our table.

I notice this problem a lot with new/first-time servers at my work. When training them, we try to drill in their head that we're all human and we DO make mistakes.. but you have to apologize sincerely and do what you can to help and BE PRESENT at the table.
We have had a few shy fresh-out-of-high-school girls that get so upset about messing something up that they never return to the table because they're scared. They don't realize that makes the customer have an even worse experience.
One thing I learned at the casino in my short time there was that when someone is being rude, being overly friendly and prompt can completely turn them around. I've had some trashy/ghetto people turn around and start tipping me $5/drink because I was so overly quick and friendly.
