I hear Tech is going to decline the NIT invitation and wait for the NCAA tourney to call...
Anyway, I count 15 autobids -- 8 NCAA autobids and 7 NIT autobids -- going to schools with less than a 100 RPI. 100 is a magic number because you add 68 NCAA teams plus 32 NIT teams and you get 100, right?
So anyway, with 15 getting in with sub-100 RPIs (as of Saturday night), that means the cutoff to get an at-large into the NIT would be an RPI, of, roughly, 85.
According to real-time RPI, LSU is at 83, for what that's worth.
As for the schools with below 100 RPI with auto bids, according to RealTime:
NCAA
Albany (143)
James Madison (181)
Liberty (288)
Long Island (175)
North Carolina A&T (224)
Pacific (105)
Southern (184)
Western Kentucky (152)
And in the NIT:
Mercer (136)
Northeastern (159)
Robert Morris (124)
Charleston Southern (190)
Niagra (127)
Norfolk State (177)
Long Beach State (113)
So one would think LSU is sitting pretty right now as a 6 seed, roughly the No. 23 team in the 32-team NIT field.
