This quote was made for people who were saying the newer tech had anything to do with Jack's run being better than Tiger's. It was made to establish that we could compare Tiger's numbers to Jack's even though they competed in different eras.
Keep in mind that this quote was in response to what I was saying. It was directed at me. You responded to me. So it is relevant to our argument.

This quote doesn't contradict the previous one.

quote:
Everyone in the field has access to the same equipment, thus the playing field is leveled for superior skill to take over.
quote:
the newer tech means more people have a shot at winning compared to Jack's era
How can the playing field be leveled, but more people have a shot at winning?
Are you saying that the skill of the modem golfer is superior to that of those in the past? That's a completely different argument, but it will get us to the finish line (if that is indeed what you are saying).
So you believe that equipment has no factor in that equation? Especially in the GOAT?
quote:
But for the purpose of GOAT discussions, equipment is irrelevant.
It is what you believe. So lets revisit the original argument...
quote:
the superior technology of a given time and the technology itself.
This is where it began.
ETA: The quotes inherently contradict each other because the arguments contradict each other. They aren't the same argument.

How does this work if Jack was in his prime now playing with the gear we use now?

You've taken this quote entirely out of context, which I explained just now in the post above this one.
