They are 5000 years old.
They have survived cat 5 hurricanes, river floods of biblical proportion, earthquakes, locust hoards, and a century of merciless abuse from tiny little asses sliding down them on cardboard boxes.
Short of a bulldozer or a few sticks of dynamite, they are not going anywhere.
Should they be given more respect? Certainly.
But I don't know what more within the bounds of reason could be done to protect them...
