This is true, but it also didn't make defenses better back then.

Here's another thing I don't understand, if I had to pick one single player who would best be able to adapt to hard fouls while driving the lane, Lebron would be the no brainer answer.

Then you have ask yourself, ok, how would those great defensive players from the 80s play good defense nowadays since they couldn't be so physical and couldn't handcheck? Same thing.
