The league was incredibly physical back in the day. Guys would get knocked on their arse for driving the lane, as a warning not to do it again, and the hand-checking rules allowed guys like Jerry Sloan to basicly mug people on the court.
Here's another thing I don't understand, if I had to pick one single player who would best be able to adapt to hard fouls while driving the lane, Lebron would be the no brainer answer.
Then you have ask yourself, ok, how would those great defensive players from the 80s play good defense nowadays since they couldn't be so physical and couldn't handcheck? Same thing.
