Jesus Pete!!! This again? I am assuming that you are under some Pollyanna delusion that every player gives it his maximum effort on every play of every game, Right? Are you this naive or just trying to stir up shite? How old are you and under what rock do you live? Grow up.
old enough, and am also someone who played and can garauntee never wasted the scholarship i had and showed up to every practice and workout and gave my all for the school. its something you do when you are given that privelige. you dont half arse weeks at a time.

there'd be plenty of outrage if a saint outright admitted something similar

Because NFL teams don't play anybody like Towson.

I don't know, New England losing to Arizona last year reeks of them not taking that game seriously.
I'm not really comparing towson yo Arizona, but let's not act like the pros take games like that as serious as someone other games.
Do you think other sports don't have the same problem?
The only real difference is the pros don't admit it.

Love Sam, great Tiger.
He just got a potentially costly lesson into today's world of "journalism" where they take one line out of a 15 minute interview and blow it up into something that they create an entire article around.
Scouts will take notice of this before they talk to him personally and realize it is much ado about nothing, but the idiot fans freaking out about this as though it's some indictment of his time at LSU are huge nerds.
The quote was basically about knowing that the competition at the NFL level is another world than what he was up against at LSU. Nothing more.
Read and relax nerds.

I agree with that, but I think last year had a bit to do with this years attitude.
I agree. Hopefully younger, more hungry guys step in and play through the season.

Now not going 100% at practice to better himself, that as a NFL scout is alarming.
will definitely cost him some serious money

Sort of like a huge part of the fanbase?
WTF does this have to do with the fanbase? That was one hell of a deflection.
We know our fanbase is like that, but it's why they are fans, not players. Unlike yourself, I kind of expect more from the guys wearing the uniforms than the "fans."
Every player takes plays off. Several of LSU's took a decent portion of the season off. It was a problem last year, didn't see it nearly as bad in '11

LOL. It's funny to me that many people are so shocked by this. Players do it all the time and he's just one of the crazy ones to tell on himself.

Please.
Your righteous indignation fails in the face of human nature.

It's funny that people only bring up North Texas, Towson and Idaho, while forgetting Auburn, Miss St, Ole Miss and Arkansas. What should've been a hungry, driven and downright angry team stemming from 1/9 never materialized.
Hopefully, it appears this coming season.

I guess the sign Moffit put up during the season had some truth to it.
I do put some blame on Les for this. He is the coach and the one that sets the level of intensity for the team. I'm sure Bama has players that don't give it 100% every single play every single week, but I also think that Saban's intensity curtails some, if not a lot, of slacking.
I don't dislike Sam any less. If I hated him for it, I would only be hating him for telling the truth. It is a let down and he should have not said it, but it is the truth.
Remember, these are 18-22 year old guys. Many of which are away from home for the first time. Some of which come from places that aren't the safe middle class neighborhood many on this site identify with. Using Sam as an example, his brother was shot and killed in a senseless crime. We like to think of these guys as LSU football players and nothing else. Like that was what they were born to do. We tend to forget that they carry their own sets of life problems, distractions, and motivations. We forget that their probably more concerned about getting laid, resolving a fight with their girlfriend, dealing with a family problem, or getting a little money to buy something they want than the Appalachian State game that weekend. Then throw in a full time school schedule that brings its own set of problems.
College was hard enough for me and I wasn't traveling every other weekend with the eyes of 10s of thousands of people watching me. I can only imagine what it's like for some of them.

I see way more dedication and effort from the players down on the field than from the empty seats on the third quarter.
I also understand a little about human nature and I try to remember that the players are human and young ones at that.
I especially try to not take a little thing like this and magnify it into some dark element infecting the LSU program.

well it seems to me that sam montgomery took 1-9 off and did so with alot of his teamates.
LSU needs to make sure that it chooses its player leaders a little more carefull.
Because on NC it was like everyone had sam attitude and they picked a hell of a time.
I cant believe that some of you are justifying taking plays off. In the future taking plays off should mean you are on the sideline watching.

Has anyone ever watched a GAME and came away thinking that Sam didn't play with great effort? I cannot remember ever seeing him with a lack of effort in the game. I can recall the game against South Carolina that Montgomery was on the sideline yelling to the team "Play like me!"
I think the answer was honest and I still love big Sam!

He was always on moffit's "dear NFL scouts" list. It shouldn't be a suprise...

And that is where the Saban factor comes in..........his players are 100% or he sits their arse.
Is what it is
