Saw a poll in some magazine the other day where they asked bush pilots (I trust what these guys say about survival) what they carry. Most carry (in addition to a 12 ga) a .44 mag. 240 gr for moose and bear. .357 would probably be sufficient for moose in urban areas, though I wouldn't mind someone with a shotgun for backup.
I've seen a few guys who carry 10mm too.

I'd feel undergunned up there with less than a 4" .44 magnum. Hopefully to shoot my way to a real gun.

Exactly. That's what I should have specified when I said "lots of people up here use .357 with large hard cast". I meant in the city.
A city moose encounter is going to be less than 10 yards. At that range, a .357 hard cast is going right through their skull...and they have a big head that's hard to miss, even when charging.
