Long time, but its just gotten worse with our continued success and their recent success. All of them I talk to that hate LSU is because they think literally everyone thats an LSU fan is arrogant and thinks they're above ULL. What they forget is which is the flagship school and which has had more national success athletically, so some of that attitude is substantiated. It's not as bad among older ULL fans, but those 35ish and younger, they're hate for LSU is as strong as their love for ULL

no it fricking isn't
Their hate for LSU is 523454 times stronger than their love for ULL. I've seriously never met anyone that truly loves and 100% supports that athletic department and I grew up in the middle of Lafayette.

LSU fans make them feel inferior and they can't stand that. It's the only reason they hate LSU. It sure isn't a rivalry.

I lived in Lafayette for a while back in the mid 2000's. I think a lot of the reason why they get their panties in wad is because Lafayette/Acadiana, to them, is a big deal. From what I got from living there it seemed like one of those places that you didn't drift away for too long if you were from there. My buddies' kids & their friends usually would jump into the 5th year of high school known as UL-L rather than "starting over" in a new town like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Oxford, etc. The kids that did go to LSU were "too good" for UL-L and usually came from wealthier families. Why they made such a big deal about it, I'll still never figure it out. LSU is a public university, not an expensive, private university.

Maybe things have changed, but from the looks of things, they got worse. The wealthy oilfield kids are still going to LSU and the only once that stay behind are the f**k ups or the townies.
