I kind of find it hard to say that Simba is stupid. That happened when he was like 6 (or the lion's equivalent), so I could see why he'd continue to believe it well into his adulthood.

He goes from "I just can't wait to be king" to "frick being king" in a matter of 5 seconds. Now I realize why and how much time has taken place but we never see the transformation and the catalyst is him meeting some jungle bums. Granted I realize this is in conjunction with him believing he was responsible for the criminally negligent homicide of his father

I don't think he kept believing it per se, but once he ran away, he realized he couldn't go back because A) he was going to be blamed for his father's death and B) well, running away like a coward. He wasn't that person, er, lion, anymore. Even if it wasn't true, he did rightfully believe Scar had pinned the death on him.

I do think Little Mermaid has the best songs (the Sebastian chase sequence? Tres bon!), but I'll take Lion King's symphonic score.
