Bill Buckner really doesn't deserve the hate, just like Bartman doesn't either. In the "Buckner" game the shite was hitting the fan before Buckner missed the ball. Even if he makes the play, the game was still tied, the game continues, and NY keeps playing with all the momentum from the rally they made.

Most people don't even remember that Rich Gedman had a passed ball the previous batter which allowed the tying run to score. Plus, just like Bartman, it was game 6. Neither play kept the teams from winning game 7.
