What I don't get is this seemingly significant majority of TOS fans who not only like it, but LOVE it. I can't tell if it is peer pressure, the whole, "We're supposed to like it because it is much better done than the TNG movies" or whatever

I have an attachment to the original series characters and the work done in that series and the excellent, excellent films done with those characters. If I'm not supposed to remember or worry about that, why the f*ck am I watching this movie?

All of these statements contradict:

The thread topic was crystal clear. In the OP I clearly stated that I know I'm in the minority, I don't want to be converted.

Therefore, this thread has turned into a bit of a debate thread.

And let me be clear, I don't want to convert you. The movie wasn't even one of my favorites and I don't really care for Abrams that much, either. But your vehement hatred for the film and inability to qualify why you hate it other than "it isn't true to the source material" is fodder for debate and shite giving.

With the prodigious lack of creativity in Hollywood right now, there is a plethora of films (and TV shows) being made that are based on books. I am a HUGE ASOIAF and Sherlock Holmes fan, but I love Game of Thrones and Sherlock. I don't think anyone will debate both of those series are very liberal with the source material. Are you a fan of either ASOIAF or Sherlock Holmes? Do you like Game of Thrones or Sherlock?
