I thought TNG was sacrilege when it started.

I didn't. I've softened on TNG over the years, because I've gone back and watched Babylon 5 and DS9 - B5 could be hokey at times, but there was legitimate drama there, from start to finish. DS9 is just stunning in retrospect, so well thought out. TNG got better when they gave up on Wesley as a deus ex machina after the first season or so. It's still a good, episodic program, better than Voyager, certainly, but TOS and DS9 stand above the others because of - character development, 4 dimensional characters. The great stength of DS9 was Gul Dukat, one of the most fully developed, 4 dimensional SciFi villains of all time.

Another weakness of the 2009 Abrams film - the villain was G*dawful.

I felt like the 09 movie was too much of an action flick, while Star Trek at its best balances action with headier themes.

I will also admit to being the type of fan that was annoyed that Kirks dad was in a ship that looked like it just flew in from fighting the Borg Cube in FC.

TNG

Still the best series. I was always a TOS guy until I finally gave this one a chance. TNG's first couple of seasons are kind of rough...but, damn does season three get the ball rolling!

Comparing any of this to the new Abrams stuff is just not possible. It took me a long while to step back and separate the two. Sure, it's still the Star Trek Universe...but, it's also not the same.

Looking forward to the new movie

They had many many hours to develop him.
