But really, coaches in rec leagues should probably not be dicks about how they play players.

One thing you learn in life is the best player doesn't always play. That's in sports and it happens in life. Life isn't always fair. There are many reasons things happen. Sometimes it's favoritism, sometimes incompetence, and sometimes the coach/boss gets it right. That's just the way life is. You don't always get a fair shake. How you respond to that is up to you.
