Sorry, I was occupied but was trying to get the info here and answer the question quickly.
The long answer: When the team wants people to know something, one typical mechanism is to send an email. This email may come from Matt Ryan, Harold Kaufman, some intern, Lindsey Mitchell, or "Hornets Communications." This email came from Matt Ryan, but I didn't check the sender, just saw the following message:
New Orleans Hornets G Eric Gordon will not play tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers due to a sprained right hand.
This is the same way several people who post news here get their info and the same way media members who report the same thing around the same time get their info.
