Why didn't Mad Max kill Blaster in the Thunderdome?

Was it because Max saw he had Down syndrome? That sure didn't stop Blaster from trying to kill Max. Plus, Master was a complete dick. I never understood why Max had the change of heart.
He got what he deserved. He busted the deal and faced the wheel.

Agreed. Blaster doesn't have the mental faculties to know that what he is doing is wrong. It's understandable that Max would feel a little guilty.
eta: I just remembered. Wasn't Blaster a character in the first movie? The simple minded guy that scares Max's wife in the woods right before the biker gang shows up?
