well fwiw, i believe the 290 thing

a solid 3wood strike for me between 280-290, but my driver can get 300 - 315 on a super solid strike and depending on wind and fairway conditions has been know to go significantly farther...although I have a tendency to play a draw, 290 with a high fade is monstrous with a 3wood

So I dont have a gap problem, i just simply rarely find myself in a situation where i find I need to hit a club 290 yards especially because i am just as consistent with my driver as any wood

Part of the problem is I grew up playing with no fairway wood and actually used a 2 iron because i was able to get enough loft with it to hold a green so until i switch back to the fairway woods i wont be as consistent as i would like

I am about to buy an entirely new set because, my equipment although still good is not as good as it could be and I think I am going to drop the 2 iron for a fairway wood. The 2 iron can get me a solid 250-255 yards (just rarely any instances to use it), but my gap is for that 270-275 range...that is the range i am looking for on the tee when i dont hit driver, i am very consistent with the driver so when I dont hit it, it is because there is some sort of hazard or perhaps a danger of hitting it through the fairway...and in those instances often times 280 or 290 is just as bad as 300 or 310...who knows, i may keep a 2iron as well and just switch clubs depending on the course

For you I would ask, is your driver more outdated than your Fairway woods? I would then look towards the shaft in my driver and the loft as well...you could also get your fairway woods loft change....you can get that 3 wood you have made into a 4 wood even
