I normally don't do this the first time I see a movie. Upon subsequent viewings, I try to analyze the movie to see what works and what doesn't.
Film and Media Arts is my degree field. I have to study film for classes. Gladiator was actually one of the films we had to watch and then do a write up of why we did or didn't like it and give reasons for each.
The previous post was the main point of my writeup.
