just commenting on the history here...

Vitt, offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, special teams coach Greg McMahon, tight ends coach Terry Malone and strength and conditioning coach Dan Dalrymple are the only coaches left from the 2006 staff.

When other teams want your guys you are doing it right. Three head coaches from your staff (Marrone in Buffalo, Allen in Oakland, & Johnson at Tulane) in 6 years in pretty impressive.

Big shoes for a new OL coach with Marrone on to HC and Kromer on to OC as the standard.

"It boils down to the players (to run a 3-4)," Tomsula said last week. "It does. Obviously, the Saints are talented. That's a talented team. They've got some good players. They're going to bounce back. You've got Sean Payton, and the rest of the staff, Joe Vitt. That thing is going to be fine."

Impressive history of SF defense since Tomsula-

Maybe mentioned before but another impressive fact: He has been retained as D Line Coach under 3 different coaches/regime changes. That shows that he is impressive and respected as well as being able to get along with varied personalities and styles.

One more... NT Sopoaga is a UFA. He's not all world but he won't be a bank breaker either. He might like heading to the Big Easy with Tomsula if he is the one. Like how Spags brought Chamberlain and that DB from STL (Marques Johnson?).

I've said before, the first three calls I'd probably make would be Romeo Crennel, Keith Butler and Mike Singletary.

That being said, I wouldn't be upset with a Tomsula hire either. To me, a Butler, Singletary or Tomsula hire is kind of like a Sean Payton hire. Young coordinator looking to make his chops in the world.
