Non-CGI heavy sci fi films never get the benefit over movies like those.

But Children of Men is among the greatest films ever made, and was AT LEAST as good as The Departed.

Evidently, I may be in the minority on this board, but I disagree completely with everything in that quote.

Children of Men was a good movie, and it probably deserved a nomination, but it wasn't much better (if at all) than the other nominees. I've seen all of them except Letters from Iwo Jima. I definitely prefer The Departed to CoM, and The Queen, Little Miss Sunshine, and Babel are all toss-ups IMO. I've only seen Babel once, but I really enjoyed it (if memory serves). All are good movies.
