I hate the "players don't fit Spags system" argument.
1.) What's his system? Having Justin Tuck, Osi, JPP & Michael Strahan on the DL? Yeah, nobody has the players to fit that system save the NYG.
2.) A good DC would find a way to use the personelle he has. Not the other way around.
I agree the players need to be upgraded, but that's no excuse for how bad we were. We weren't that bad the year before with virtually the same players.
Also, we won't be able to do a wholesale defensive change as far as players go because of the cap this year.

It's a system that calls for smaller (in weight;quicker) defensive linemen and stouter linebackers and big physical players in the secondary. It's an aggressive zone-blitz scheme. GW liked his linemen beefy and his linebackers small and 5'11 corners.

He did switch to more man as the year went on, but that was after the 0-4 hole, which wasn't all the defenses fault.

quote:I hate that one too. Almost as much as "It's a complicated system and it takes a long time to learn". It's not like he's trying to teach a cat how to bark. It's still lining up, tackling, covering, blitzing, yada yada yada.
