Trindon Holliday seems to be doing just fine.

he runs a 4.2 40 and doesn't do anything but return kicks/punts. apples/oranges. trindon has also been cut several times, including midseason this year. he basically saved his job in the playoffs. i wouldn't say he's "doing just fine." he's getting by doing just enough to keep a roster spot, sometimes. they don't even play the same position or the same side of the ball, so i don't know why people bring him up

He had a shot at a Superbowl, an undefeated season, and he destroyed every kickoff team he faced.
He is doing A OK.
And who said TM7 would ever play defense? Because that won't happen. People know he will on be PR/KR. So that, that is why we compare

tyrann won't last in the league purely as a returner

Not sure when you saw him, but I saw him in the quad early last fall and he was about my height (5'9") but was easily 185 190. He'll have a place on special teams somewhere in the NFL

Y'all ... Tyrann is going to do the same things in the NFL as he did in college - take the ball. I never seen a player as good at stripping the ball, tipping passes, and recovering fumbles as Tyrann Mathieu. If you don't think the NFL values those skills, well I don't know what to tell you.

Wes Welker, Trindon Holliday, and Russell Wilson are not of the typical size. They have made impacts. He can do it. Remember, people didn't see him competing at the Division 1 level either.

i also think his PR skills are over exaggerated. he didn't do much of anything in the return game until the last game of the season. prior to the arkansas game, he was averaging 9.35 ypr. skyler green was a much better returner consistently than tyrann, and never returned a single punt in the nfl. people who think mathieu could make it in the league as only a STs guy are out of their minds.

and none of them play the same position as tyrann. and outliers don't hold much, if any, predictive value.

what does this even mean?
I'll just say this: Tyrann was an ourstanding college football player, one of the best to ever play in the SEC. However, that doesn't mean he'll be a great NFL player. He has a ton to overcome with his size and average speed. He has great quickness and football instincts, but the NFL is an entirely different game than college. I feel like a lot of y'all are going to be very disappointed. I hope I'm wrong because I still like the guy, but it's more likely he'll be average or out of the league in a few years than be an all-pro like many on here are advocating

quote:I don't. He is the real deal, you bring up his punt returning ability early in the season, hell, he was just trying to get used to being out there then because Mile's just threw him out there unexpectledly during the season. Mile's had him and someone else(can't remember) taking turns because PP(another exceptional return guy) was gone.
i also think his PR skills are over exaggerated. he didn't do much of anything in the return game until the last game of the season. prior to the arkansas game, he was averaging 9.35 ypr. skyler green was a much better returner consistently than tyrann, and never returned a single punt in the nfl. people who think mathieu could make it in the league as a STs guy only are out of their minds.
He was nervous and just tryin not to fumble the punts back then, you could see it. But once he settled down at the end of the season and his confidence level skyrocketed as well, his natural talent took over. He is the real deal at returnining punts, he did it in HS and he can make people look foolish tryin to tackle him like he did against Georgia in the SECCG. LSU has had a lot of great return people from Skyler Green to the latest Odell Beckham, but Tryann Mathieu is not over exaggerated like you are tryin to say! Skyler Green screwed himself in the NFL by trying to make it has a receiver only back then, had he also went after PR by the team that drafted him, I'm sure he would still be in the NFL today, but he didn't. Mathieu could easily just be a return guy in the NFL, but his playmaking ability on defense is just too much for teams to ignore!

Look up the career of one Pat Fischer, a CB for Redskins for many years. TM7 reminds me of Fischer. TM7 will kill as nickle back and playmaker... Create 1 - 2 turnovers a year in NFL and it's worth a million a year. His mistakes are seeds sewn into him at an early age. Pain few people understand with the situation with his Dad. I really believe he'll kick butt in a limited role which will give him more longevity... He'll be returning kicks/punts for TDs like Trindon, PP7, Kennison and others from GeauxVille. !!

Tyrann Mathieu wil be an nickel back extraordinairre in the NFL. You know it and I know it, nickel back in the NFL is a valuable position and he excels at it! Along with his punt returning abilty, he'll make millions!

I hope the Redskins take him in the 2nd or 3rd. He is worth the "risk."
Posted on 1/24/13 at 3:59 pm to FreeLesMiles
On a good defense he would be a steal and could be a great playmaker. On a bad defense I'd give him 3 years in the league.

KOR/PR , situational DB maybe .... I guess its "possible" ..

yeah, RG3 loves him. I would love to see him with the Redskins.

you are forgetting that in 2013, the receivers are much taller than in the 1980s

I know one thing he won't be and that's a cornerback. He can't cover shite! As for returner who even knows the dude had 2 good returns in 1 yr of college football and hasn't played in what will be 2 yrs. If he doesn't create turnovers IMO he's worthless!!
