Technically speaking SOS was a seperate component of the BCS formula. That component was removed after the 2003 debacle.

HOWEVER, the computer rankings are a component of the BCS formula and most (might be all, but some of the computer formulas are proprietary) of these rankings use SOS as apart of their formula.

In short, SOS is still used in the BCS formula, it's just not a seperate component anymore.

You are correct, but it had more meaning in 2003 and before since a team was awarded an extra point in the BCS standings for beating quality teams.

We have no idea now what formulas are used for SOS since several of the computers will not release their formulas.

CFB is a farce now. Teams like Bama and ND know how to exploit the "formula" for their benefit.
