What kind of TV.....?

I hope this board can answer..
I am cashing in some travel points and I have a wide array of TV's to choose from.
What kind, LED or LCD? The TV is strictly occasional movie watching and sports. (no gaming)
We also have some plasma choices that are much bigger to choose from like 50" and higher. Is plasma even 'in' anymore...keep in mind it will be 'free'
TIA

The biggest deterrent for most people looking at a plasma is having images permanently burned in.
If I leave Netflix on the home screen all night the image will remain once I turn off my Xbox. However, once I put a tv channel on nothing is there.
So in short burning is temporary and goes away very easily.
There is nothing wrong with LED, but for me plasma is the most bang for your buck.

Don't console games usually output to 720 p anyway?
Posted on 1/21/13 at 6:26 pm to Mr Gardoki
Not sure but why would that matter on the TV? Might as well get 1080p so it can be used for other things. Plus the next gen consoles are around the corner. No way they only output to 720p

I agree. There is not much reason to get 720 now but a few years ago when everyone was getting 1080 there was truly very little content available in it. On some levels that is still the case.

Thread Hijack sort of
Is plasma the best for gaming as well? or is LED better?

No one answer for that. Depends on your preference.

Panasonic plasma. The new models will be coming out soon, so you can probably get last years flagship VT model for a pretty good price.
As far the person asking about gaming, stick to the LED for that. Depending on much you play, plasmas will have a touch of IR with games having static images on it too long. The IR goes away with normal tv viewing but no reason to risk burn in when gaming for hours playing something that has like a static map or something like that.
