In my opinion it has passed its peak and is on the way down.
Hoarders have hoarded and flippers have flipped. People have bought new guns and supplied them either via hard work tracking down ammo or over paying the flippers for it.
The result is that prices have gone up for the flipper...and crazy buyers are not as abundant as they once were which is driving the profit margins down for the flipper. As the flippers get out of the business, the inventory will start hitting stores again.
If you are a flipper....I completely understand why you did it, I did it to. But you better start lowering your inventory and start moving what you have because it is going to be like the FL housing market fall out in about 6 months.
I know a couple of flippers that are sitting on $10-20K left of ammo that are starting to get worried because profits have tracked down for 3 straight weeks now. I think that the time of the flipper will soon pass and when it does, the long lines will go down, the build buys will go down, and the inventory will go up.
Just my 2 cents worth...and I might be due some change on that 2 cents worth but that is what I feel and see.

im not a flipper! im a hoarder but have been with ammo for a few years. i havent paid any jacked up prices, just made sure i had my own supply if something like this happend! Glad i did, its nice not worrying about trying to find a box of 22 ammo because i wana go squirrel hunting, or having to pay $1 a bullet for 223 because i wana go out and shoot some in the field! maybe more people will be prepared next time... could be worse

I agree with your post. I'm done buying stuff that I don't own guns for. As of now, I'm only buying things that people have requests for. I have 3 guys who said they will buy any and all AK ammo I run across, up to 10,000 rounds. That's the main thing I'm looking for right now. A couple other guys said they will take all .22 I can find at 0.10 CPR. I can see the profit margins shrinking which is why I won't be buying anything that I don't have someone who is requesting it from me
Prices won't be going down that much though. We are in a new norm of 0.40cpr as cheap .223. We are also at least 6-8 months before shelves are regularly stocked again

quote:I hope you're right because i'm not done buying if I can find ammo for the right price. This will not be the last scare we have because some fruitcake shoots up a school, unfortunatly. I will not be caught with my pants down next time, I'll have all the ammmo and mags I can posssibly need for myself and for possibly flipping.
because it is going to be like the FL housing market fall out in about 6 months.
I think it'll also be 8-12 months before we see ammo readily on shelves again, and at least a year before reloading supplies are available. Although people are not 'hoarding' much anymore, they're still gonna pick up a box here and a box there every time they see it available for <.50cpr
