Come on. Mathieu's best offer outside of LSU was Southern Miss. You can not convince me that he wasn't a "diamond in the rough." At least Claiborne had some other decent offers from A&M and Nebraska. Other schools had plenty of time to jump on Mathieu because he committed to LSU in July.

Claiborne was a three star. One of the top 750 prospects. Not exactly predictive of a first round pick. Or a Heisman nomination either for that matter or defensive player of the year awards when also including Mathieu and his accomplishments

Mathieu was a four-star, top ten rated CB, and in the Rivals 250.

More offers would have come but he shut down his recruiting early and let everyone know he was going to LSU.
