I tell this exact same thing to people. Even if it bucks like crazy when I pull the trigger, the guy on the receiving end is gonna feel it more than I am. And if it recoils too much, I'll just pop some 38 in there.

I would also stick with some reputable expanding defense ammo:

Speer Gold Dot
Corbon DPX
Federal Hydrashok
Hornady Critical Defense
Remington Golden Saber
Winchester PDX1 (very similar to Ranger T)

There are a few others but these are the ones I trust the most.
