I don't think elite and season should even be used together. I think the word "elite" can only be used to described programs, and it has to trend over the course of 10 or so seasons.

To answer your question though, I think there is only one team a year that can have a truly "elite" season- the team that wins the NC. The bowl system is so fubar, it is difficult to make other generalizations.

And your coach must NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES make anything that could be considered a questionable call.
