I think we should just trade for Trindon to solve this problem.

Was that from the 1984 games?

This thread is full of fail, especially the OP.

We are not drafting a QB, especially in the first 3 rounds. It will all be defense drafted. The only position on the offensive that will be addressed is Tackle.
This team is in no position to waste a pick and let someone groom. Not to mention we are years away from addressing that issue.

While I agree, I think it is important to draft a guy to groom early. Yes, teams are seeing success starting guys they just drafted but I would feel more comfortable drafting a guy to sit under the greatest QB in our team history for 3-4 years and learn how to play the game.
Yes, Drew does say in his book that he is pretty much afraid of his spot being stolen by a backup.. Just tell him when we draft said player that we are doing it because he's getting old. He should understand. We don't want to suck again when he leaves.

Not anymore. It's a different game. Rookies come in it make impacts. You need to make sure you draft the right guy.
Name me another QB, other than Aaron Rodgers, who sits for 3-4 yrs and is an elite QB. Rodgers was rare situation. Farve wouldn't retire. You think him sitting 3 yrs made him a good QB? I have a feeling he was going to be elite whether he started from day 1, sat a 1 yr, or sat 3 yrs.

That'll reassure him

We've seen just as many early QB picks bust in the last few years as we've seen succeed.
I'd rather not take the risk.

I hope, in about 2-3 years, we are in a position where a top rated QB drops, and the Saints take him for the future. And when the day comes for Drew to go, this new guy can step in a la Aaron Rogers, and the transition can be smooth.

There is no Guaranty, period. You can have a guy sit three yrs, but that doesn't mean he will end up being a good NFL QB.
Name another guy, besides Aaron Rodgers where a team takes an early QB and he sits 3yrs and then starts for the same team he was drafted by. Its rare in the NFL with Salary Caps and Contracts. Im Not even tapping into how you are wasting Drew Brees (Saints) window of opportunity by drafting a QB to groom.
3yrs is a long time to groom.

Not to mention Drew will be playing at a high level for next 5yrs.

I understand what you're saying.. There are almost none. Rodgers, Rivers, and Romo, pretty much. That does not mean that drafting a QB and starting him from the get-go is better than grooming one..
And how does drafting a QB to sit behind Brees and be groomed to start after he leaves waste our window of opportunity with Brees? It would be ridiculously selfish for Drew to think that we're not going to plan for what to do at QB after he leaves. He is getting older.
I am of the opinion that he will retire after his current contract.

We've discussed the Rodgers situation. Rodgers would have been a good/great whether he started day one, sat a yr, sat 3yrs. Sitting 3 yrs didn't make him great.
Rivers sat 2 yrs. He was drafted not to be groomed. He was drafted to take over Brees job. He wasn't a successor, he was the competition. Brees started playing really and forced Rivers to stay on the bench.
Romo wasn't even drafted. He wasn't brought in to be groomed. He was giving an opportunity and ran with it.

Really? is this a question? Using a draft pick, especiallly a high draft, takes away from drafting surrounding players to improve the team. You build a good team through the draft.

Let's just agree to disagree. I would prefer having a QB learn under Brees than just throwing a guy to the dogs.

Thats fine. It just doesn't happen in the NFL anymore. I'll be the realist. You can continue to ride the magical unicorn.
