I am pretty sure it was installed in the first practice.

Wait a minute, your too young to remember the Gerry Dinardo era?

I assumed you were much older than that.

why didn't you come to the rescue earlier when sabans name was mentioned? oh wait only if someone picks on miles do you get your panties in a bunch. If it had been a miles circle jerk you wouldn't have said a word. Pathetic.

No. Dinardo doesnt fire Tepper. He's probably here another 2 years. Saban is coaching elsewhere by then (maybe UF, UGA or Bama instead of Fran). We end up hiring someone like Zook. Program doesnt take an upward turn and we are the equivalent of MSU.

But hey, lets bitch about winning 10 games and having 10 JRs declare for the NFL.

because Saban isn't the head coach of LSU anymore...he's the head coach of bama. therefore....i don't give a shite about Saban

good points. but was Saban that big of name back then to replace Spurrier or get a job at UGA or bama? i always felt he was fairly unknown before LSU

He might still have a little magic left. But unfortunately, he lost his hat that Miles is wearing now.

Not amongst the casual fans but he was well respected in the coaching community. That is what i remember anyway.

Saban was well known in coaching circles. Not so much as a guru, but I know that we beat him in the 95 Indy Bowl. Then every year after that his Michigan St teams would get beat in the Sun Bowl and the ESPN NFL guys would be saying that he was about to be hired as a head coach for "X" team in the NFL. I always wondered how he was up for NFL jobs when he kept going 7-5 at Mich. St. Then his last year at Michigan St was a great one, and we scooped him up.

I really get upset with Gerry for the scenario of beating Florida and then losing to Ole Miss and then losing to Notre Dame later in the season before beating them in the Indy Bowl which was Tepper's first game I believe. JMO, I thought that Gerry has us headed in the right direction and I believe that if he had not hired Tepper, he would have at least got us into a Championship game. Whether we won it or not, I dont know but I believe he would have gotten us there.

No, that was 1998, when Tennessee ended up playing FSU in the first BCS NCG in Tempe (in January 1999).

1995, 6-5-1 (4-3-1)
1996, 6-6 (5-3)
1997, 7-5 (4-4)
1998, 6-6 (4-4)
1999, 10-2 (6-2)

At the time, it looked like Michigan State was just having a little bit of success in '98 & '99 because of the outsized impact of one guy--Plaxico Burress.

Honestly, they kind of sucked right after 1999 too, so it's not like Saban built anything there that lasted for more than one freak season. The Spartans had a losing conference record for every season from 2000 to 2007, with the exception of 2003.

The '97 team was an SEC Champion calibur squad whose potential was squandered away by bad coaching.

The downward momentum of that '97 season was too much to overcome.

When LSU started getting manhandled in all phases of the game in a single season by the UK's and Ole Miss's--we have a problem in the coaching ranks.
