Sending 11 Juniors to the NFL isn't good
For the team but is great propaganda for Recruting. That can't be denied. Soon every sports news broadcast covering the draft will repeat over and over again the number of kids from LSU entering the draft. That's free advertising. You couple that with our coaches playing the 2nd most freshmen in the country this year and that is truly a great recruiting tool. But that is the only good thing about this exodus.

quote:In Les Miles-speak, I got a chilling thought that he is unknowingly (I hope) sowing the seeds of his own (and LSU's destruction). Having read his interview I surmised he is recruiting based on the athlete's likelihood of going into the NFL. Now if that's the big draw to LSU, then LSU is not (the big draw). LSU becomes the means to an end. And as he said, he doesn't do much to persuade a potential early jumper to stay put. Maybe I read that wrong, but it almost sounds like he expects (maybe even encourages) early jumping to the NFL. Which, over time and if this year's large number of jumpers is the tip of an emerging iceberg, could spell team instability over a few more years. And bring down the very thing he's built.
what does being developed mean (in offense)?
Don't blow this off - it may not be as far-fetched an idea as it might at first sounds.
Normal graduates --> to the NFL (to be expected)
Early jumpers --> also to the NFL (random)
Possible Outcome: Team Fabric, leadership and benefit of experience is diluted more quickly than it might be otherwise in a normal graduation pattern.
LSU becomes a farm team for the NFL, and the NFL will gladly suck us dry and then move on to the next farm team and do it again. See Miami Hurricanes.
Yes, I know...
But...

"Elite" programs are judged by one season? This is news.
One bad or mediocre season can ruin an "elite program"

quote:How this draft turns out will determine how attractive this is to recruits.
Play early. Be developed. and get in the show.
That is LSU.
Even Miles said that it's a big risk to go early if not drafted in the top 2 rds.
If we have a large number of early defections that are drafted low/not drafted, that's not attractive to recruits.
If 2 RBs left early b/c of a "log jam" how is that attractive to recruits who want to play early?
Now if we have 9 guys drafted in the top 2 rds, that says a lot about our talent pool.
Opposingly, what would that say about coaching that that much talent just finished the season ranked 14th? Real question...

Will do better with fresh and sophs...they have not been around long enough for coaches to screw their heads up.

We may have some growing pains here - but damn - we have not had any in a long time. I do not think some of you realize how rare, even for elite teams to simply replace 1st rounders with underclassman first rounders - year after year. It cant go on. For Bama either. We are right there with Bama.
Our recruiting is NOT going anywhere. We develop kids for the show better than anybody. They know it - and they will keep coming. If we have growing pains - so be it. It cant be stopped. Look at the mess Urban left Florida in - they are coming right back. Miles can maintain a program and recruiting MUCH better than Urban. One hit wonder then bravely run away.
The kids going pro is awesome - dont give the media a reason to think otherwise. The recruits love it - Believe me.

Finishing 14th in the polls and 87th in offense is not elite!
Losing practically the entire junior class along with the seniors is not elite.
Now saying the kids may get playing time given the fact that everyone with experience is leaving may be true and draw some kids in, however none of this equates to assurance of playing in a championship game. Not now, not given where we are today. Not happening. We were 9 points from a 7-6 season this year!

Count the bs out of bounds on peterson and the bcs screw and we have your idol backed up in death valley to shut his arse down and take all 3 of his.
Now look at the schedule bama played in same time span. Its pathetic.
Compare top ranked wins and head to heads with Bama/Saban.
We are neck and neck with Bama. does Bama play Fla. every year? Wonder how that would have worked out for them?
We have been on a roll - second only to what they now call the best coach and team ever. We are 3 plays back.
Chill the frick out.

I'm not a football guru by any means but you look at it from an 18 year olds perspective. 10 juniors are leaving early for the draft, what does that mean? It means they were talented and developed over the course of 3-4 years leading to their ultimate goal of the NFL. What high school kid is going to say I don't want that?
We see top 100 players every year turn into busts and not even see their name of the draft sheet. It's not as if LSU has the top recruiting class every year. Now LSU can sell hard they sent 10 underclassmen to the NFL last year and they're all doing very well for themselves.

Guess that would be putting a positive spin on it...but in all honesty I feel kids want to go where they are better gauranteed to win a NCAA
Championship...as of late and present that would be Bama and Nick Saban...just being honest.Bama will have a few leaving early...basically because most of them already have 2 NC rings...so it's time to move to the next level...believe me when I say losing to Clemson in the chicken bowl and being all but a no-show in the NC game against Bama hurt LSU's recruiting...if you had a kid who was one of the best coming out of high school and he had his choice of going to a program that has won back to back NC or one that is ranked #14 where would you push him to go?
