re: What a difference one play makes...

Losing wasn't all bad if it makes the team better and improves the offense in the long run. It was only a chicken bowl loss. It's all how Les handles it. LSU was downright lucky not to have more losses the way we played vs Arky, Ole Miss, and Auburn. We could have easily dropped 2 more. Our defense has spoiled us the last few years. With player losses to next year's defense the offense will have to be better.

It's like y'all don't watch other college football teams because you're so busy bitching about ours. Luck and having "one play" go your way is part of the game - it's why we watch
I bitch about ours because that's what I care about. I don't give a damn about Alabama or Notre Dame.
When I see our coach ecstatic over barely beating Ole Miss, that tells me something. Any normal coach with half a brain is pissed because we played like shite, and played down to the level of our severely over-matched opponent. Not Les though......"Woooooweeeee what a game!!!! Are you kidding me??????"

I don't like that attitude. I've seen other Miles defenders say here that the team wasn't motivated to perform in a meaningless bowl. FTS. Bowl games ARE meaningful, even if it's the Independence. Miles is paid to win them, just as he's paid to win regular season games.

and THAT is why LSU has been less than dominant against inferior opponents...
False. LSU has not been dominate because the coaches have not prepared the team appropriately. PERIOD!

Ehhh, he's paid to win titles, if you ask me.
Bowls like the Nouveau Peach are just about prepping for the next year. Like any game, they count as data to uncover nagging tendencies, but I wouldn't put too much stock into the losses to Penn State or Clemson, or for that matter, the wins over Georgia Tech or Texas A&M.

LSU is not a fun team to watch, period. Even wins are frustrating.

Baloney.
A lot of people pay a lot of good travel and ticket money to attend, for one thing... and these bowl games are supposed to be matchups of nearly equivalent teams. If we don't win them it pretty much tells us that the other guy was a better motivator and game manager.

I appreciate what CLM has done for LSU . He is as good as a recruiter as their is . And with this wealth of talent not only on the field but waiting on the sidelines, we expect more than mediocrity as do the players that came to LSU .The defense is always stellar , why can't the offense be the same way . I can't remember the last time I was sure the Tigers would demolish a team .He should appreciate what LSU does for him and realize we have areas that need improvement .

Maybe if Miles's offense was geared toward actually outsmarting, outmaneuriving, or outexecuting an opponent rather than just overpowering them we could do a bit better against teams with whom we're merely physically equal.
You're preaching to the choir, brutha. This has been Miles's MO for the last 5 years. The personnel groupings and formations give the plays away ahead of time. So then it becomes a matter of having to execute perfectly and/or overpower your opponenet. He is not putting his players in the best position to succeed.

This is a bullseye shot to the nailhead. I want Les to win multiple championships. But he has to get out of his own way.

Good 500th post....The "yes but we won arguement" only works if your team never loses a game ever.
Do successful companies stop trying to figure out ways to make more money even if they are already profitable!
Get an OC and pay him well. Les needs to get over it....He doesnt own the team and has failed to meet expectations on the offensive side of the ball.

Sorry for the link-off, but I thought this was a great article on the situation at Texas, that is also really relevant to the point above. UT is going through some serious (and similar) issues - could be where LSU is heading if they don't get the ship righted:

When losses started to happen and the offense would struggle, his questions all started from square one. Wins and losses drive Mack's analysis - not process.

That's what I mean - you have no idea that Notre Dame almost dropped 5 games did you? We play in the most difficult conference in the league and face the most difficult talent year in and year out. Losses are going to happen and you guys need to deal with it. We are an awesome team, but even awesome teams are flawed.

I hate to admit it but I was actually hoping he would make it so the fall out would be greater. The man has to be held accountable for a loss now,not another vintage Miles victory.

If we had won it would be like 2010 where we lost to Auburn and Arkansas on the road. Both played bcs games and one won the natty. Same here.

How many times did we hear this when we played like shite. Finally caught up to us.
