32 GB DDR3 2400 Ram
3 680s (4gb version)
i7 3970x
asus rampage IV extreme
etc
etc
etc
yeah i went stupid on it - but i have a dozen "wish list" builds at various price points for both office and gaming use, mainly for quick reference when we get a custom order. makes my shopping super quick.

spend a bit more and get a 670 or 680 FTW edition @ 4GB vram

No such thing.
There are no 2560x1440 120hz monitors on the market.

sLI 690s?
Total waste of money with the 2GB VRAM bottleneck. My sLI 670s 4GB ran better in nVidia surround than my 690 does.

Say what!
I can't wait to sell my 690 just because of the VRAM. Some mods hit 2GB+

amongst a host of other things. 90% of our customers are small business and corporations though, so mostly service calls for firms too small to have an IT dept. we do some custom builds, virus removals, laptop screen repair etc etc as well.
i know my pc in the benchmark thread doesnt reflect it, but i really do know what im doing
i havent played skyrim since sept

You said your pc was a couple years old, so it was probably a damn good build when you first did it.
I made my wishlist build solely on if I had money to spend. I mean, how cool would it be to rock crossfire 7990

yeah its a couple years old - whenever the 6850s first came out. i remember i spent next to nothing on it, going the unlockable core route with AMD was definitely the way to go back then on the lower systems. i play skyrim on high to ultra in 1080p, what else do i need? i dont spend enough time gaming anymore for the wife to allow a major upgrade. maybe i should go spill a cup of coffee into the case
the problem with 7990s and 690s is that i havent seen many that have the full compliment of vRAM. i guess i have seen 7990s with 6GB but not many 690s with 4GB.
next build of my own will definitely be a PLP triple monitor set up though

Just threw together a build
3.4 GHz amd phenom
Msi 7770 radeon
Mobo
8 GB 1333 ram
500 GB hdd (lol, on a budget)
Case
CPU cooler
fans etc,
Bout $530
shipped to my door. Feeling pretty good considering I was tasked with "build me a $500 gaming pc"
That 7770 should roar

Am3 socket board? Get one with core unlocking and you can downgrade the cpu to a athlon ii x3 455. Those specific cpus are actually phenom ii x4 b50s with the fourth core locked up for market share purposes. At one time they had a 90% stability rate. Should save about $35 that can go to 1600 mhz ram instead

Thanks for the tips and advice
yes, gigabyt am3 socket board but im open to suggestions
Someone else advised me id want the phenom due to L3 cache over an athlon x3 I had eyed
But your statement is very very interesting

Sexy.
My price includes a $25 aftermarket cpu cooler , $25 case, $10 fan, and before mail in rebates
Half as much storage as yours and a step down in system memory. Not extremely excited about that to be honest
The 650ti runs fine on a 550w psu? Interesting.
I run a phenom and a evga geforce 550ti for personal. No complaints but I figured id go Radeon with my next amd build

mine too. you can get the 955 from tiger direct without the stock heat sink and fan for 70 dollars. So i save 25 dollars and put that towards cooler master 212 plus that was 29
my HDD was $55 dollars at the time.
my ram was $34 dollars with a 15 dollars rebate.
yeah, i have the 650ti overclocked too and im getting 50-70 FPS while recording in DAyz and chivalry.
Also, you can put that phenom on a am3+ board and you have a decent upgrade path if you decided to get one of the FX chips later.

Very nice. Thank you sir
If you can record dayZ while maintaining 50-75 fps, you definitely did awesome for the price
Give me the tigerdirect cpu and mobo item #s...

dude, i compared every benchmark nonstop for over 2 weeks till i decided what i wanted. Oh and i wouldn't get over 1333 ram if you get the phenom and want to overclock it. The only way i can run 1600 and it be stable is at stock 3.2. It's about a 1000 point difference in the 3dmark11 score the way I have it now. about 4100-stock. overclocked it's 5100+
EDIT: my ram is running at 1600. It some of the older phenom's that it won't run on.

Is this all fake?
Not fake, but those monitors are overclocked. And it's a crapshoot. I think there was a certain line of catleaps that could be modded.

Just moving from a crossfire setup to a single 7970 has cleared up every single problem I've been having. It helps that AMD has been developing 12.x drivers with 7000 series in mind almost exclusively. And I will never do crossfire again.
