my take... the real action will be between Rummel, Jesuit, Chalmette, and West Jefferson for second place, plus whatever gets and keep those teams in the top 32 for the state playoffs
Brother Martin, led by Jabbar Singleton, Jordan Cornish, and Jalen Gray is the heavy favorites to win district and make a run to wherever state's gonna be, but they can be beat on a bad night
if Grace King had Danny Granger still... but they don't. still they played Chalmette to within 71-69 last year on their home court, so they can get that upset and throw a wrench into the standings.
Rummel's three biggest names from football (Williams, Carter, and Fulton) play hoops and it's showed as the Raiders have won 6 of 7 in the last two weeks, their only loss in that time frame to Brother Martin at the Chalmette Christmas Classic
Jesuit might be Jesuit, or they might be JESUIT... they return Ed's son Riley, now a junior
West Jeff had some impressive looking players last year, and this year have grown as a team to become an x-factor in district.
Chalmette is led by seniors Jarell Green and Curtis Winding, and have lost close to some of the top teams in the state, by 4 to East Ascension, by 10 to Brother Martin, and by 2 to top 1A team Central Catholic. The Owls have yet to see postseason basketball in class 5A, now in their 6th season.
one thing people may not realize about Chalmette head coach Butch Stockton is that his move from St. Bernard High to Chalmette happened before Hurricane Katrina... due to Katrina he now has basically the same job he did before with the same kids
Ron Brocato's prediction
1. Brother Martin
2. Rummel
3. Jesuit
4. West Jefferson
5. Chalmette
6. Grace King
