Pretty basic but a moving tank is easier to spot then one sitting still. All tanks have different view ranges and camo ratings. Radios extend how far you can transmit to teamates the location of enemy tanks. Theres a maximum view range of 500m while radios have a much larger range. That's why you can see red on the mini map but not actually see the tank because a friendly has spotted them outside your tanks view range.
Some other tips are don't use auto aim. Mouse wheel zooms into a sniper mode for better accuracy at longer ranges. Bushes provide extra camo until you shoot. All tanks have the least armor in th rear, then sides, with the front having the highest. There are also weak spots, things like a machine gun port and commanders hatch on top of the turret. All of those little things aren't just for show but have there own armor values. Also how sloped or angled the armor is will add to it's value.
Those are just some basic things but there's so much more. That stuff will come with time if you get more serious.
