The 1981 team was my favorite. Durand "Rudy" Macklin, Greg "Cookieman" Cook, Ethan Martin, Howard Carter, Leonard Mitchell and Willie Sims.
I think this was the best LSU team in my life time.

You gotta have some marquee players.
That's horseshite.
Arkansas, Mississippi State and Alabama all have had FAR less "marquee" players than LSU in the past twenty years and still get good fan support (despite having successful football programs), and (shockingly) get better results out of their basketball teams.
It's almost like 18-20 year old kids have a tough time getting motivated playing in front of an arena that's 20% full, with nobody cheering for anything. Who knew?
LSU fans are frontrunners that know shite about basketball. Like the football and baseball team, they'll support the teams only when they're in contention for a championship, and being at the game raises their Baton Rouge social profile.

Shaq at LSU doing any one of his donkey kong dunks with 3-5 defenders draped on him is more amazing imo
He did it a lot

What about Dewayne "Astronaut" Scales?
