I don't get peoples drive to shoot young bucks year end and year out.

Killing a 2.5 year old buck is not really hard to do. They are dumb and curious and will come into just about any setup you put out.

I consider myself to be an average or slightly above average hunter and I haven't seen a 2.5 year old buck yet this year. May be because everywhere I hunt other hunters shoot whatever they see. So far this year I've seen a ton of yearlings with no does, spikes and fork horns.

I guarantee if is see a doe or a rack I'm shooting it and will tickled to death. Now, if I was seeing 2.5 year old bucks every hunt then of course I'd let them walk and wait for something better. Point is, a challenge to one hunter isn't always a challenge to another

a 2.5 year old buck is very cautious where we hunt. War makes children grow up fast!

This is why so many herds are out of whack. People can bitch about people not wanting to kill "small racks" but it's really about age and ratio. These poor dumb bastards are WAY easier to kill than does. On public lands with no age or antler restrictions, these guys and yurlins are what you're going to see at the weigh station. It has ruined Cocodrie.
