Y'all really lumping Spikes in with DPMS?
I was lumping all sub $100 lower receivers together since they were being construed as cheap. But, yes I would say a forged spike's lower is just as good as a forged DPMS.

For me it's about having something not a lot of others have. You can go pick up a spikes or DPMS anywhere. You don't see DDs, knights, LMT, OR A Larue etc around that much. I'm not a huge brand whore but I like having nice things. I probably don't need a new GMC and could get away with an old Chevy but frick it, I like nice shite.
Nothing wrong with that brother. My only qualm was with Carson advising a noob that Noveske lowers were inherently better than DPMS lowers. Insinuating that anything but a Noveske or DD is not quality. When in reality, for the most part, a lower is a lower is a lower (when refering to forged).

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but mil-spec or any other spec. used to manufacture any kind of part is but a baseline. There can be very wide spectrums of quality between two parts that meet the same manufacturing spec.
That being said, I've never seen/heard anyone really explain the DPMS hate. I'm pretty new to the "modern sporting rifle" genre, so I can't personally vouch for any manufacturer over another. I wish there was a single, somewhat objective review of all the various manufacturers' products in terms of machining finish, dimensional tolerances, surface treatments, etc. ... in other words an objective summary of what might contribute to one manufacturer being better than another. But, opinions are like ... well, you know.
This coming from someone with a handful of Spike's lowers on the way!!! And, I'm thrilled they were sub-$100!
It'll be a shame if they fall outta the boat.

And don't try and tell me that if you were offered a DPMS and and Noveske that you'd take the DPMS
