Not true. They were never Aurors. According to Pottermore, at least, they went directly to working with Dumbledore to fight Voldemort straight out of school. James Potter came from a wealthy, pureblood wizarding family, so he had a large inheritance that he was able to leave for his son.

Huh, could be true, I'm not pretending to know more than Pottermore (which really dissappointed me btw). I guess they (at least James) was training to be one
