I don't think it's a very big if.

With all the lawsuits and head injuries coming out couples with the rule changes that are pissing fans off, I think it's inevitable that football will eventually go the way of boxing.

either that or it will be very different as we see it today. Like flag, 7 on 7, or even going back without headgear.

I don't think that it would be very different.

I think that we'll see some rules and equipment changes that make it less dangerous over the next few years.

A great first step would be to mandate wrapping up in tackles.

Football is more popular today than it ever has been. Despite the lockout and rule changes, its popularity is going up, not down.
