I was just a young teenager at the time. I remember being at my mom's house and my uncle coming up the front steps with a sad look on his face. He was wearing an LSU cap. I believed it rained that day in Baton Rouge.
I remember the coverage on WAFB tv. There was another aircraft trailing Coach Rein's plane and the pilot was trying to communicate to the Cessana. It was at this point that the chilling discovery was made. I don't know if the plane wreckage was ever found as it crashed in the Atlantic Ocean not far from where Bo Rein coached IIRC. Gives me goose bumps even today thinking about that tragedy.

that's why the plane was on a NE heading, avoiding thunderstorms that were covering a large part of the state the night before

I remember thinking it was just tragic but also something very eerie about a plane flying all that time w dead people on it

scrambled fighters to check it out, one engine died of fuel starvation before the other, and it began a spin/spiral, jets followed it all the way down
