FWIW, I have a friend who refs at the college level who said he would not have called it. And he leads with his shoulder and makes contact with the side of his helmet.

But if the SEC said that they should have called it then I will stand corrected.

The rule in college about illegal hits on defenseless players specifically mentions the QB immediately after a change in possession (i.e. an interception).

Sorry I came late to this but I wanted to get this on the record. Your referee friend is wrong.

That was a blatant head to head blow where he was trying to take out Murray. The Bama player should have been ejected for that. Instead the refs look away. I felt like burning down the SEC HQ's after that game.
