He was eating some fresh roadkill on the side of the road when I saw him yesterday. And there's always plenty of it on that stretch of road.
He's a smart one. No need to risk endangering himself when there's plenty of free food available daily.

So say the owner does find him, how would he get the bird back? I know nothing about falconry.

I would imagine the handler has a whistle or clicker or something that the bird would recognize and might fly right to the handlers arm if they find him.

Just wondering. If he is skiddish of your truck, sounds like it could be a real challenge.

He might come to the lure (dummy with meat attached that they've been trained means a meal). If not, he might have to trapped the same way we trap them in the first place.

Update: was off this weekend and didn't see the hawk yesterday. However on my way home today something caught my eye on side the road. Flipped around and back to it and its bad news, maybe. I looked around on the road and shoulder and didn't see the bells and tassel-thing so I'm not 100% sure this is the same bird.
