Here's what I vividly remember from the 2004 season: After winning our first NC in 45 years, LSU opened the season 3-2 and the very vocal ASSHOLES among our fan base were bitching about the same guy who was our hero only 8 months earlier.
Struggle to beat unranked Oregan St by a point at home, lose to Auburn by a point and then get shelled by UGA? Who cares about that NC and 13-1 season last year! Saban has to go!
Although I had known for years that we had a demented and unrealistic fanbase, 2004 took the cake. Of course it now pales in comparison to the sense of entitlement we see during the Les Miles era, but I look at 2004 as the beginning of the "we ought to go undefeated and win the Nat'l Championship every year" mentality. It astounds me that people can be so delusional.
