Talia was the main villain of DKR
The Emperor was the main villain of both star wars trilogies.
When did Luke win? When the Emperor was killed.

I still @ Blake suddenly showing up at Wayne's house and gives his little elevator speech and immediately knows that Wayne is Batman.
My only beef with this movie was the amount of coincidences it had.

Almost 70% of Star Wars was about Darth Vader in an antagonist role. The vast majority of Dark Knight Rises is about Bane and his role as an antagonist.
It doesn't matter who shows up at the end or who is actually in charge. The movies clearly centered around Bane and Darth Vader and they are considered to be focal characters. That makes them the main antagonist in those movies.

Nope.

The main antagonist is the emperor.
Bane was taking orders from Talia, the slow knife.
Bane was the knife you see, the misdirection. They were pretty clear, I thought.

If you want to be very technical the main villain in TDKR is Ras a Ghul (with Tilia by proxy on his behalf and Bane by proxy on her behalf). That's one reason the plot was convoluted aside from the absurd coincidences etc etc

That's correct. Bane was nothing more than a weapon, like Scarecrow was for Ras in BB. Like Vader was for Palpatine. It COULD be argued, originally, that Vader was the main antagonist. However, once the Emperor was shown on screen giving orders to Vader, specifically in ROTJ, he became the main antagonist in ROTJ.
From the second half of ESB to the end of ROTJ Vader isn't really the antagonist. He is more of an anti-hero with his own motivation: to sway Luke to help him kill the Emperor. When the audience hears "JOIN ME and WE can rule the galaxy" Vader is more of his own character.

Why does everyone think that the mercs are part LoS. Imo the LoS after Ras just consists of Talia and Bane. The mercs are not trained like LoS members they were just used to obtain their goal. The Blind devotion of the mercs just comes from them believing in the cause.

Yes...but no other villain presented itself before that time. He was ALWAYS the main villain even though most of his villainous acts occurred off-screen. Contrast that with Talia, who did nothing villainous at all until she stabbed Batman with a knife at the end of the movie.
Watchmen is more of a detective story, so it's a bad example. A better example would be Lord of the Rings. You never see Sauron in the story, there are other big villains (Saruman, Gollum, Nazgul), yet clearly Sauron is the main antagonist of the story.

Bane is Batman/Wayne's biggest opposition. He's the featured villain that moves the story along, and forces the character of Batman to progress in the story. He's the main antagonist and the Nolans have said as much in previous interviews.

I'd actually argue the One Ring as the main antagonist of the story.

The slow knife
quote:
Talia:
it’s the slow knife...the knife that takes its time, the knife that waits years without forgetting, then slips quietly between bones...that’s the knife that cuts deepest.

Bane was billed, so that you wouldn't think anything as the slow knife went about slicing him.
Bane had no beef with Batman. None. He was a tool.
Talia was the mastermind, and the executor. She wanted Batman to not only fail, but KNOW he failed in the reaches of his soul.
Bane broke his back. Talia broke him in every other way imaginable.

exactly, the clean energy project "that failed" and Bruce went into seclusion when it did. That was Miranda's plan. He might have hung up the cowl, but he was going to to good as Bruce Wayne with the project. Only after that did Bruce become Howard Hughes. Leaving his legacy (Wayne Enterprises) diminished.
-Another thing Nolan's take that I didn't love, Bruce as the empty suit.
