Hmm well I heard something different earlier today during another game.

Similar thing happened in Denver game and the CBS crew said he was fair game after he bobbled it.

Unless they changed the rule very recently (this year?), it's not a muff until it hits the ground. A year or so ago, similar was flagged in a game cause the ball bounced up off the returner and he got crushed before the ball dropped.

so a player can muff a fair catch and the opposing players can't hit him?
sorry, but that's fricking retarded

Keep up with the game and the thread. I posted the same thing you posted. Then Al Michaels said something different than us and I posted I heard something different earlier today.

Item 3: Muff
After a valid fair-catch signal, the opportunity to catch a kick does not end if the ball is muffed. The player who signaled for a fair catch must have a reasonable opportunity to catch the muffed ball before it hits the ground without interference by members of the kicking team, and regardless of whether the ball strikes another player or an official.
Rule 10, section 2, item 3. There was a change made in 2010 after the Titans caught a ball that bounced off the returners chest in stride and ran into the end zone, and were penalized 15 yards for fair catch interference. Now the yards are waved off in that case, but the ball remains with the return team.
Of course, there's no explanation for what a "reasonable opportunity" is considered to be.

Are the Giants really throwing fades this late in the game trying to score? That's pretty classless.
This is coming from a Falcons fan and I can't stand either team.
