I don't think that's quite true. A few years back, Clemson and So Car declined bowls as punishment for their teams having an ugly brawl against each other.

However, if Texas declined a Cotton Bowl bid to avoid playing the Aggies, they would humiliated 1 billion times more than if they lose to the Aggies by 50. I could see them trying to get the CB to pick someone else and going to the Holiday Bowl, Mack Brown's 2nd home but they won't decline a bid.

You can decide to NOT go to a bowl game all together, but if you go you dont have much choice as to which bowl game you go to.

Agreed. No way they decline.
