I can assure you this was NOT the reasoning. We had gone through ten years of poor coaching hires and NCAA issue. We wanted a coach that would make us competetive once again in the SEC, period.

We lucked into Saban after Rich Rod agreed to the job then backed out. It was simply chance that Saban did not enjoy his NFL experience and in fact regretted the decision. Bama fans pretty much concur had the LSU job been open at that time he would have certainly returned.

If anything it was auburn and UT that were the biggest sore for us. No offense or disrespect for LSU but I don't think LSU alone was the driving force.

he never said it was. he was not saying bama hired saban to hurt LSU, he said bama thought it would hurt LSU. the motivation to hire saban was simple; y'all sucked and had sucked since stallings departure and saban was a proven top notch coach.

Knew some Louisiana HS Coaches. Upon his first recruiting trip back to LA as Alabama's coach he told every high school coach, 'Terri and the kids loved BR for NFL......Leaving was the poorest decision I've made, on and on'

I may be wrong, but I think the OP meant that by hiring Saban, Bama fans probably thought that Miles and LSU would become less of a team each season and Bama would totally dominate the SEC. Instead LSU has thrived on the competition.

Good post. I would agree with this completely.

Psychdeli Tide,

Thank you for acknowledging that your team like all teams went thru a dark period where you all chose poor coaches and had NCAA issues. I swear you are the first Bama fan to even acknowledge that Bama has a 10 year down period. To talk to Bama fans, none of that even happened. No Dubose, no Francione, no Price, no problems! All teams have their ups and downs and most will acknowledge it, but you are the first Bama fan who will admit, that Bama went through a bad time when the Tide wasn't all that and a bag of chips!
